The Road I Chose

The Road I Chose — Amor Fati

Two roads appeared before me
beneath the morning sky,
I paused between the choices,
and watched the moments fly.

One road disappeared behind me,
one road called me on.
I wondered what the other held,
what might have been, what’s gone.

Perhaps it held more laughter,
perhaps a different view.
Perhaps another version
of the person I might be too.

But life does not reveal to us
the roads we leave behind.
We only know the footsteps
that carry us through time.

So I will not keep turning back
to ask, “What might have been?”
The road beneath my feet is mine;
this moment is the gift I’m in.

For every joy and sorrow,
each mountain, stream and bend,
has woven through my journey
and brought me to this end.

I will embrace the detours,
the losses and the gains,
the unexpected sunshine,
the unexpected rains.

I will cherish those beside me,
and treasure those who’ve gone.
Their footprints are still with me
as I continue on.

And if I meet a crossroads
somewhere further down the way,
I will choose with all my heart
and welcome what each day may say.

For I cannot live two journeys,
or walk two roads at once.
I can only love the journey
that my life has chosen for me.

So let the other road remain
a mystery beyond my sight.

I will savor this road,
cherish this road,
enjoy this road—
and love it with all my might.

Amor fati.
Not “I wish my life were different.”
But—

“This is my life.
This is my journey.
And I say yes to it.”
